Looking for a Huntress alternative?
Huntress watches your devices and accounts from the inside with a 24/7 SOC. HackRisk shows you what your organisation exposes to the internet, so for most businesses this is a question of fit, not replacement.
HackRisk is not endpoint detection and response and does not replace Huntress. If you need a managed agent on your devices, identity threat detection in Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, or a SOC that responds to intrusions around the clock, you need a product like Huntress. Nothing on this page is a reason to cancel it.
HackRisk works differently. It scans your organisation from the outside, the way an attacker would, and reports on exposed services, vulnerabilities, leaked staff credentials and supplier risk. You enter a domain and get a plain-English report and an A* to F HackRisk Score within 24 hours.
The two overlap in places. Huntress Managed SAT includes phishing simulation, and Huntress Managed EDR includes Open Port Detection. The comparison below covers what each one looks at, how you buy it and the shape of the cost.
Why people go looking for an alternative
People search for a Huntress alternative for a few reasons. Some are a fit for HackRisk. Others are a reason to stay with Huntress or talk to your MSP.
You are a small business buying without an MSP. Huntress describes itself as channel-first and recommends buying through a partner. Buying through a reseller or direct carries a Huntress-required minimum of 50 seats per product, and if you buy direct you are responsible for deployment, portal management and responding to SOC incident reports. If you have fewer staff than that and no IT provider, check this before you start.
You want to see your outside as well as your inside. If your question is what you have left exposed to the internet, such as a forgotten subdomain or staff passwords in a breach dump, external monitoring is built for that.
You need a report non-technical readers can follow. HackRisk produces a single score and a plain-English report written for non-technical readers. See an example report to judge whether that format suits you.
You want flat, published pricing. Huntress prices per endpoint, identity, data source and learner, so cost moves with the number of units you cover. HackRisk Core is a flat monthly price for the organisation, published on our pricing page.
If you want less protection on your devices, HackRisk is not the answer. If you want visibility of your external exposure alongside your endpoint protection, read on.
HackRisk in brief
HackRisk is a cyber risk monitoring platform for UK SMEs, built and run by the security experts at CyberLab. It scans your business from the outside, the way an attacker sees it, and turns everything it finds into one score: your credit score for cyber security.
Behind the score sits continuous monitoring of your external attack surface, dark web monitoring for stolen staff credentials, vulnerability scanning and supply chain checks. The results arrive as a report your board can actually read, with the fixes ranked by what needs attention first. Pricing is published: £49.99 a month for the Core plan on a 12-month commitment (£59.99 a month rolling), with a Cyber Essentials Readiness tier from £77 a month.
It starts with a free report. Enter your domain and you get a board-ready assessment within 24 hours, plus 30 days of full portal access, without handing over card details or sitting through a sales call.

Where the two really differ
Inside-out versus outside-in
Huntress puts a lightweight agent on your Windows, macOS and Linux endpoints and connects to Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace. Its SOC monitors those sources around the clock. That suits an intruder already on a laptop or inside a mailbox.
HackRisk's external monitoring looks at what anyone on the internet can see about your organisation: subdomains, exposed services, known vulnerabilities, staff credentials that have turned up on the dark web, and the security posture of your suppliers.
Where the two overlap
Huntress Managed EDR includes Open Port Detection, which Huntress also calls External Recon. It flags exposed services such as RDP, SMB and SQL Server, using Shodan.io.
Both also offer security awareness training with phishing simulation. Huntress Managed SAT is managed for you. HackRisk offers training and phishing simulations as an add-on at £2 per person per month. If training is the only thing you are comparing, judge the two on content and fit.
Response versus reporting
The biggest difference is what happens when something is found. Huntress's managed products include a 24/7 SOC, and Managed EDR includes active remediation. HackRisk has no 24/7 SOC and does not block, quarantine or respond to incidents. It tells you what is exposed, ranks it, explains how to fix it and alerts you when something changes.
If you need someone to act at 3am, HackRisk is not that service.
How each one is bought
Huntress is channel-first and recommends buying through a partner. Through an MSP there is no Huntress-required minimum seat count. Through a reseller or direct there is a 50-seat minimum per product, and when buying direct you are responsible for deployment, portal management, responding to SOC incident reports and integrations. Huntress says its pricing does not include the deployment, integration and day-to-day management that partners can provide.
HackRisk Core can be bought direct with published prices, and the free report needs only a domain. MSPs can ask us about volume pricing.
The shape of the cost
Huntress publishes MSRP prices per unit in USD: $8.99 per endpoint per month for Managed EDR, $4.80 per identity for Managed ITDR, $4.00 per source for Managed SIEM, $2.08 per learner for Managed SAT and $4.00 per identity for Managed ISPM. Per-unit rates fall as volume goes up. The cost grows with the number of units you cover.
HackRisk Core is £49.99 a month on a 12-month commitment or £59.99 a month rolling, billed monthly either way, for one domain. These prices pay for different things, so we do not compare them as like for like.
Who should choose Huntress
Choose Huntress, or keep it, if any of these apply:
- You need endpoint detection and response on your devices, with a team that responds to threats around the clock.
- You want identity threat detection for Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace, such as account takeover and business email compromise.
- You need a managed SIEM for log monitoring and compliance support.
- Your MSP already runs Huntress for you and it is working.
- You want security awareness training managed for you by the same vendor as your endpoint protection.
For most organisations, endpoint protection comes before external monitoring. If you have to pick one and have nothing on your devices, start there.
Who should choose HackRisk
Choose HackRisk alongside your endpoint protection if any of these apply:
- You want to know what your organisation exposes to the internet: subdomains, services, vulnerabilities and leaked credentials.
- You want dark web monitoring for staff credentials and a way to assess your suppliers.
- You need a plain-English report and a single HackRisk Score that non-technical readers can follow.
- You want flat, published monthly pricing for monitoring.
- You are working towards Cyber Essentials and want help with Cyber Essentials Readiness, from £77 a month on a 12-month term.
The quickest way to judge is to get your free report and see what it finds.
Switching, or just comparing?
There is nothing to switch. HackRisk does not take over any job Huntress does on your devices or identities, so keep your endpoint protection as it is. Adding HackRisk external monitoring means entering a domain and reading the report.
If your MSP manages Huntress for you, share the HackRisk report with them. External findings such as an exposed service or an out-of-date web server are often things your MSP can fix, and our vulnerability scanning gives them the detail to do it.
Frequently asked questions
Can HackRisk replace Huntress?
No. Huntress is managed endpoint, identity and log detection and response with a 24/7 SOC. HackRisk has no 24/7 SOC and cannot block an attack. It monitors what your organisation exposes to the internet. If you need what Huntress does, keep it.
Does Huntress already monitor my external attack surface?
Partly. Huntress Managed EDR includes Open Port Detection, also called External Recon, which flags exposed services such as RDP and SMB using Shodan.io. HackRisk covers recon scanning, vulnerability scanning, dark web monitoring for staff credentials and supply chain security, all summarised in one report and score.
How much does Huntress cost?
Huntress publishes MSRP prices per unit in USD (checked October 2026): Managed EDR $8.99 per endpoint per month, Managed ITDR $4.80 per identity, Managed SIEM $4.00 per source, Managed SAT $2.08 per learner and Managed ISPM $4.00 per identity. Per-unit rates fall as volume goes up. The 24/7 SOC is included at no additional cost. The standard term is 12 months. Huntress recommends buying through a partner, and buying through a reseller or direct carries a 50-seat minimum per product.
Can a small business buy Huntress directly?
Huntress says it is possible but recommends buying through a partner. Direct purchases carry a Huntress-required minimum of 50 seats per product, and you are responsible for deployment, portal monitoring and management, responding to incident reports from the SOC, and tech integrations. Through an MSP there is no Huntress-required minimum.
How much does HackRisk cost?
HackRisk Core is £49.99 a month on a 12-month commitment or £59.99 a month rolling, billed monthly on both, covering one domain. Extra domains are £25 a month each, extra scan targets £8 a month each, and training with phishing simulation £2 per person a month. Cyber Essentials Readiness starts at £77 a month on a 12-month term. The free report costs nothing and needs no card details.
Do HackRisk and Huntress work together?
Yes, they can run side by side. Huntress covers endpoints, identities and log sources. HackRisk covers what your organisation exposes to the internet. They look at different things.
We are an MSP. Is HackRisk relevant to us?
It can be. HackRisk offers volume pricing for managed service providers, and an outside-in report is a straightforward way to show a client what they are exposing. Contact us to talk it through.
